SIM-29: Lenore Miller Oral History Collection

 Collection
Identifier: SIM-29

Abstract

This collection of oral history interviews with Jewish war veterans was conducted by community activist Lenore Miller between 2007 and 2011. The first series of interviews, in 2007 and 2008, was a joint project between the Jewish War Veterans of the U.S.A. and the Jewish Historical Society of Staten Island that resulted in the DVD entitled Jewish Veterans Speak (2008). With the assistance of WQXR radio veteran Jeff Spurgeon, Miller recorded interviews with eleven veterans at the Jewish Community Center on Manor Road for the purpose of leaving younger generations some “…insight and understanding of what it was like to be a Jewish serviceman (or woman) in the 20th century.” In 2011 Miller recorded additional interviews with several more veterans which are included in this collection. All of the interviews were recorded on Mini-DVs, which have been digitized and burned to DVDs for easy researcher access. The donation included several miscellaneous DVDs and an audio file which deal with the Jewish community on Staten Island.
