Scope and Contents

The images do not provide comprehensive coverage of the college. The scope of coverage is limited for both subjects and dates.

The subject matter of most images is related to the creation of the consolidated campus at Willowbrook. Specifically, there are images from the Willowbrook State School Closing Ceremony, architects' presentations and the groundbreaking, demolition, construction and dedication of the new campus. There are also three general folders of images of events, students and college staff, mostly from the 1980's. Almost all of the photographs in the collection cover the period of 1984-1994.

The majority of the printed mages in the collection are 8x10" prints. The construction photographs include both black-and-white and color photographs; otherwise, most images are black-and-white. There collection also includes color slides, mainly of campus construction, but most are poorly labeled. The collection also includes contact sheets and negatives.

Abstract

This collection contains photographs related to the College of Staten Island. In general, most photographs deal with either the Closing Ceremony for the Willowbrook State School (1987) or the construction of the Willowbrook Campus (1985-1994).

Immediate Source of Acquisition

These records have come from various sources, however, the Department of Campus Planning transferred the vast majority of the photographs to the Archives in 2001, 2003 and 2005.
