Abstract
Faculty participated in the governance of both Staten Island Community College (SICC) and Richmond College prior to their formal merger to form the College of Staten Island (CSI) on September 1, 1976. CSI followed the tradition of SICC in calling the governing body the "Faculty Council." Initially, the Faculty Council had two sections - a Community Division and a Richmond College Division. After the first academic year, these sections were merged to form one council, which held itsfirst meeting on October 19, 1977. There is no formal description of the function and duties of the Faculty Council. It appears that the council had responsibility for nominations and elections for faculty representation on committees, and had some say in curriculum decisions, appeals of tenure decisions and other issues. A new governance plan was implemented during the spring of 1982. The Faculty Council was folded into the College Council as part of the transition to the new system of governance.
Arrangement
The folders are arranged chronologically. During the first academic year, the Faculty Council was separated into two divisions and the material has been separated by division within the folders.
