Biographical / Historical

Staten Island Garden Club was founded in 1914 by Alice Austen (1866-1952) and incorporated in 1915.The club's objectives are: to foster and inspire interest in gardens and to promote their creation; to co-operate in the achievement of community welfare; to promote programs of informative character pertaining to gardens, flower propagation, and artistic design; to cultivate social relations among its members conducive to the welfare of the club and the promotion of joy and pleasure for its members and to encourage appreciation of flowers, horticulture and design. As a member of Federated Garden Clubs of New York State, Inc., First District. the club supports First District Projects. The club also maintains the grounds at: -Alice Austen House Museum -Austen Family Gravesite, Moravian Cemetery -Fireman's Memorial on Clinton Avenue -NYC Greenstreets at Slosson aAvenue and Todt Hill Road -September 11th Memorial GArden and Grounds Beautification at Church of the Ascension -Immanuel Union Church -Anthony R. Gaeta Park on Willow Road East and Victory Boulevard.

Other club projects include: -Arbor Day Tree Planting -New Yorkers for Parks Daffodil Project -Festive Holidat Decorations at Alice Austen House Museum
